Diverse Ethics Ltd. was founded by Dr. Atul K. Shah, Lecturer, Editor and Broadcaster with a wealth of experience and contacts in Business, Media and Indian Culture, Community and Heritage. Atul has a PhD from London School of Economics and has lectured at the Universities of Bristol, Essex and Maryland (USA) and was founding editor of Jain Spirit international magazine. He was an adviser to the BBC and has done broadcasts on BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Asian Network. He is a member of the Board of the National Council for Museums, Libraries and Archives and the National Council of Faith & Belief.
The company provides a broad range of research, consulting and training services in the areas of diversity, workplace ethics, and communication targeted at businesses and public organisations. It has demonstrated success and experience in these areas, and the skills to match. The core services include planning, strategy, training and communication.

Atul Shah

Chief Executive

Dr. Atul Keshavji Shah is a creative social entrepreneur with distinguished skills in business and media. He graduated from the London School of Economics, obtain a Bachelors degree (First Class), a Masters, and a PhD. Atul is founder of the internet portal diverseethics.com. He is Indian by culture, African by birth and British by citizenship - a diverse personality.  Atul is also a qualified Chartered Accountant having trained with KPMG and has worked for various charities and public institutions. He was Lecturer at the University of Bristol, University of Maryland – USA, and University of Essex. He is the founding editor for the distinguished Jain Spirit international magazine and transformed the global awareness and perception of the Jain culture. Atul is a regular broadcaster on BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service and BBC Asian Network and helped launch the BBC website on Jainism. Through his media work, Atul has developed exceptional contacts in the UK and around the world. In 2005, he was shorlisted for the UK Asian Media Achievers Award. He is author of 'Celebrating Diversity - How to enjoy, respect and benefit from Great Coloured Britain' published by Kevin Mayhew Publishers, 2007 and also wrote 'Social Cohesion - A Jain Perspective' in 2008 (jointly with Dr. Aidan Rankin) and has written hundreds of articles in professional and scientific journals on a range of topics from ethics to finance and diversity. In 2010, Atul completed an epic 'Masala Tour of Britain' showcasing the vast wisdom and creativity of India in Britain, a place where East meets West with ease.

Lynne Sedgmore CBE - Advisor

An expert on leadership and passionate about diversity, Lynne Sedgmore founded the highly successful Centre for Excellence in Leadership. She was awarded the CBE for her contribution to education, and is active in the inter-faith movement and a consultant to the Department for Education and Skills. She is an oustanding public speaker, and has given keynote addresses all over the world - in 2007, Lynne won the International Spirituality at Work award.

Professor Werner Menski - Advisor

An expert on international law, Professor Menski is Professor of South Asian Laws at the world-famous School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He has published over two hundred research articles and authored many books - titles include: Islamic Family Law (London: Sweet & Maxwell, 1998, with David Pearl); Modern Indian Family Law (Richmond: Curzon Press, 2001); Hindu Law. Beyond Tradition and Modernity (New Delhi: Oxford University Press, 2003); Comparative Law in a Global Context: The Legal Systems of Asia and Africa (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2nd ed. 2006) and Ethnic Minority Legal Studies (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2010). He has been Visiting Professor at several South Asian universities and maintains close links with universities in India and Bangladesh, in particular.


Lola Adesioye

Born and raised in London, England, of Nigerian heritage and now living in New York, Lola Adesioye is emerging as one of the leading thought leaders of her generation. She has an holistic, interdependent, connected approach to dealing with and transforming persistent social and political issues, centered around empowering individuals to create empowered actions that benefit us all.

Lola is a regular contributor of commentary and features to major print and online publications including The Guardian newspaper (where she writes a weekly online column), The Economist, The Huffington Post, TheRoot.com. She is also regularly seen on CNN and other networks like BBC and Channel 4. Lola also consults for major news and commentary-led sites in the US and UK.

With a grandfather who was one of the forefathers of journalism in Nigeria, the media is in Lola’s blood. Her Undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Social & Political Science from the world-renowned Cambridge University also inform her work..

 

Umesh Parekh

Umesh Parekh

Umesh has extensive experience of managing and coordinating cross-cultural teams. He has worked for Unilever for seven years. Prior to that he was a Management Consultant working on Pan European implementation projects. Umesh is a Prince 2 Project Management practitioner. When completing his MBA Umesh carried out research on how to maximise the effectiveness of cross cultural and virtual teams. Umesh is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and also a partner at the London Innovation Centre where he is working with dynamic companies from China and Korea who want to establish a market for their products in the UK.

Since 2005 Umesh has been a Trustee of the Vegetarian Society of the UK a medium sized registered charity that provides educational and training services. He is also active in his local community and stood for council in 2006.

Sean Bevis

Sean Bevis

A Masters graduate from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, Sean studied Indian Religious and Philosophical Systems, specialising in Jainism and Buddhism. He has lived in many different countries before settling in the UK. Sean is an MRS accredited Researcher and has worked in both the Not-for-Profit and Commercial sectors, and has delivered high-end Social and Market research studies for Media companies, London Boroughs, Local Councils, Primary Care Trusts, and National Government agencies. He recently completed a Social Research study on ‘Philanthropy in Jainism’ in India which won the top research prize at ISSJS 2009, beating academics from America, Canada, Thailand, Belgium and Spain.

Jay Lakhani - Diverse Ethics

Jay Lakhani

Expert on Hinduism, and writer, lecturer and broadcaster, Jay Lakhani does a regular TV series on India's most famous faith channel, AASTHA, and is Director of the Hindu Academy. He has spoken all over the country in schools and colleges to rapturous applause. Cultural pluralism is his strength. Jay is a regular broadcaster on the BBC Asian Network and has written for Guardian and other newspapers, and is author of two educational textbooks on Hinduism. Jay introduced Hinduism to the GCSE and A Level syllabus in the UK and his students regularly attain top marks. Presently, he is also a Hindu Chaplin at Eton College.

Adian Rankin - Diverse Ethics

Dr. Aidan Rankin

A graduate of Oxford University and the London School of Economics, where he completed his doctorate, Aidan is a philosopher, writer and journalist, having published articles in The Guardian, Observer, Spectator, Resurgence, and other magazines. His latest book 'The Jain Path - Ancient Wisdom for the West' is regarded as a unique contribution to the dissemination of Indian philosophy. Presently, he has completed a Think Tank paper on Social Cohesion with Dr. Atul Shah and has launched the outstanding book, 'Many-Sided Wisdom' published by O Books.

 

Rajendra Joshi

Rajendra Joshi, often known to his colleagues as Raj, is a retired Police Sergeant who served with the Leicestershire police Force. Raj has a wealth of experience in faith, race and Diversity. He chaired the Leicestershire Black Police Association twice, and also sat on the National Executive of the National Black Police Association. During his service Raj also managed a team of police trainers delivering innovative, impactive and effective front line training on issues of diversity post the Macpherson era. A champion in anti racism Raj may be remembered in policing for the numerous practical interventions enabling the service to commit to its duty under diversity legislation. His practical knowledge and expertise have no doubt assisted Leicestershire in an era where “race” remained a problematic theme nationally for policing. Raj continues to publish articles on police community and race relations and is a loyal supporter of the values and ethics of British Policing. He is also a practising Hindu lay preacher.

Marigold Nunes

Marigold has over 20 years experience in learning and development, business, and financial management.  She has led government and charitable projects and managed projects supported by organisations such as the Big Lottery Fund and the European Union.

Her specialisms include cultural awareness/equal opportunities, organisational change, and international development. She is Head of Global Strategy for a Department for International Development funded charity AFS. In the UK she sits on a number of national and regional policy boards including a Local Government Strategic Partnership. She is Chief Executive of Make it Happen-VJB.

Ajay Arora

Ajay studied at Brunel university, with a first in Multimedia Technology and Design, he was hired right away to assist in teaching the course after his graduation. Nodachi Design has been involved with many facets of the media industry, everything from fashion photography to 3D architecture design to commercials and documentary film making. 

Ajay is a published photographer and designer and has been involved with international projects for Channel 4, Lebara Mobile, Cunard, State Bank of India, Macau tourism board and many more.

 

 

 

Barbara Gardner

Barbara is an experienced leader and non-executive director, having served for many years on the Board of the international charity the RSPCA.  Barbara is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, having qualified with the accountancy firm Ernst & Young.  She also holds an honours degree in Business Studies from Kingston University and has headed the finance functions of several large private sector organisations.

Barbara is a passionate believer in non-harming and compassion for all living things, which has driven her commitment for the work she undertakes for the RSPCA.  Her vision is for a world where humans live in harmony with nature and where there is no speciesism.  Barbara is a member of the finance and the strategy panels and has chaired the policy review committee and the research animals committee.  She is also a director of the pension scheme and the treasurer for her local RSPCA branch in South Devon.
