LISTEN TO BBC RADIO 4'S BEYOND BELIEF PROGRAMME ON FASTING

In summary, his message is simple and profound - ancient Jain wisdom has developed a holistic and scientific approach to fasting which is natural, and good for both the body and the mind. The Paryushan Festival is an eight-day festival of fasting, when the whole community comes together to reflect and re-invigorate. This year, it is from September 4-11th, 2010. In the age of science, where medicines have so many side-effects, fasting is a 'natural' medicine, which can not only build health, but also personal self-discipline and inner strength and wisdom. This wisdom is now accessible and available to all - one need not follow a particular faith in order to fast and detox the body.
